A Notice of Motion on speed limits in new developments has been submitted by Councillor Field and seconded by Councillor Wright. p1p2

The motion cites evidence that 20mph limits increase a pedestrian's chance of survival if hit by a car, improve quality of life for those living in a 20mph zone, lead to calmer streets and improved community cohesion, and reduce pollution. p3p4p5p6

It asks the Council to request the Executive to consider implementing a maximum speed limit of 20mph when adopting roads in new developments. p6

The motion proposes doing this by reviewing the approach to setting local speed limits in new developments once the government issues updated guidance, and by seeking to influence the emerging Local Plans throughout the county so that planning policies for new developments support low speed zones, including 20mph. p7p8
