What the council owns

The land and buildings Hastings Borough Council lists as its own, from the list it publishes under the Transparency Code: 688 entries, and 35 more it holds as trustee of the Foreshore Trust.

From the council's land and assets list (Version 1.0, March 2026), read on 12 October 2026. The council's list is the record. This page shows its words; it doesn't say what any site is worth, whether it is empty, or what it is for beyond what the list says.

Is any of it to let or for sale?

The list doesn't say. A row marked “(out)” is let to someone; the list never says a site is empty. The council lists what it is letting on its properties to let page and what it is selling on properties and land for sale. Sales and leases its committees have been asked to agree are on Council land and buildings.

The list ends with these, under its own heading: “Assets Below are held by Hastings Borough Council as Trustee of the Hastings & St. Leonards Foreshore Charitable Trust”. The Trust is a charity; the council runs it as trustee. They are not counted above.

Who owns other land

This list covers the borough council only. East Sussex County Council publishes its own. For anyone else's land, HM Land Registry sells title registers (search property information); this site doesn't hold owners' names.

About the grid references

The list says: “A full dataset version including the GeoX, GeoY and UPRN derived from Ordnance Survey data can only be released for “using the data to respond to, or interact with the Licensor to deliver or support the delivery of the Licensor’s Core Business” due to OS licensing restrictions under a PSMA end user licence http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-and- government/public-sector/mapping-agreements/end-user-licence.html. If you wish to use this data for any other purpose other than supporting the delivery of the Licensor’s Core Business, then you should contact Ordnance Survey via https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/contact/ or telephone 03456 05 05 05 to discuss how they can help you with your requirements” This site doesn't keep or publish the list's grid references or property reference numbers; it places each entry by its postcode instead.
