Roadworks

Roadworks planned in Hastings and St Leonards in the next eight weeks, road closures first, from the permits utilities and East Sussex County Council apply for.

As of 30 September 2026, the newest entry in DfT Street Manager's open archive, which is published once a month: works booked since then, and emergency works, aren't here yet, and dates can move. For today's roadworks, see East Sussex Highways' map. A road closure for works usually needs a temporary traffic order: those are on Road closures and traffic orders.

Closures on the A21, from National Highways, are further down.

Resurfacing and digging restrictions

After substantial road works such as resurfacing, the county can restrict new digging in a street for a few years (section 58 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991). Before them, it gives notice so utilities can dig first.

Most permits in the last 13 months

Counted from the permits, one per permit; a long road has more to dig.
