The Local Plan, site by site

The Local Plan decides where new homes, workplaces and green space go in Hastings for the next fifteen years, and which planning applications the council should approve. This page lists every site in the council's latest draft, by ward, in the plan's own words.

Not open for comments on the council's consultation pages yet, as far as we can see. The council's own timetable is quoted below. When the consultation opens it will appear here and on Have your say.

What this stage is, and how to respond

Regulation 19 is the last stage before the plan is examined. The council publishes the plan it intends to submit, and anyone can send comments (called representations) during the publication period. They go, with the plan, to an independent planning inspector appointed by the government, who holds an examination.

At this stage the inspector's questions are set nationally: whether the plan is legally compliant (prepared the way the law requires), whether it is sound (positively prepared, justified by its evidence, effective, and consistent with national policy), and whether the council met its duty to cooperate with neighbouring councils. A comment is most useful when it says which policy or site it is about, which of those tests it thinks the plan meets or fails, and what change would fix it.

Comments made at the earlier stage (Regulation 18) don't carry over. How to send one, and by when, is on the council's consultation page. We don't suggest what to say.
