How the dates are worked out
- The council's own date: the closing date the council, the buyer or the funder publishes, read from its page or file, with the page linked on each line.
- A rule, printed on each line that uses one:
- Planning comments, where the council's file gives a site notice date but no closing date: 21 days beginning with the day the site notice went up, not counting bank holidays, Christmas Day or Good Friday. The law says the council must take into account comments made in that time (the Development Management Procedure Order 2015, article 33). Comments made later, before the decision, are often still considered, and larger schemes can have other periods: the council's file has its own dates. The order, article 33, read 14 October 2026. A letter to neighbours counts from when it arrives, which the file doesn't say, so a letter's date makes no closing date.
- A question at Full Council: five clear working days before the meeting, the council's rule, counted by us.
- Registering to vote: 12 working days before polling day, counting back from it and leaving out weekends, bank holidays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, as election law does. GOV.UK's summary of the Representation of the People Bill 2026 says the deadline will be 5pm, 12 working days before a poll; check the time with the council's electoral services. GOV.UK's summary, read 14 October 2026. It is listed only when a poll in Hastings is on Democracy Club's list of elections; the councils' own notices of election aren't read yet.
- Unknown: open, but with no closing date we can read. It says so, links where to check, and never goes into the calendar.
- A deadline leaves this page the day after it closes, London time.
- Elsewhere: consultations for particular groups, such as staff surveys, are listed on Consultations; contract notices with no closing date on For local businesses; funding open all year on Funding.
