In recognition of the Council’s statutory responsibilities in this area the Committee agreed that a review should focus on what the Council could do to raise awareness of, and increase the uptake of, Personal Travel Budgets and Independent Travel Training.
  • p142.5 Throughout the Review, the Review Board and the Department recognised the increased level of demand for Home to School Transport, driven by increased numbers of children and young people with SEND. The recommendations will be taken forward alongside delivery of the SEND reforms which aim to see more children and young people having their needs met in local mainstream schools, which in turn should reduce the number of pupils having to travel further afield to access specialist provision.
  • p183.3 All of these recommendations are considered positive and reflective of the direction of travel for the Department, and the Department considers that the recommendations are realistic and achievable. 3.4 It is recommended that the Cabinet agrees to the implementation of the action plan as detailed in Appendix 1.
