  • p81. Background 1.1 The Place Scrutiny Committee at the meeting on 29 September 2025 agreed to establish a Review Board to undertake a Scrutiny Review of Street Works. The scope of the review focussed on developing recommendations to improve the planning and coordination of street works undertaken by utility companies and minimising the disruption in the context of the increasing number of works taking place, and in particular examined:
  • p132.1 The Communities, Economy, and Transport Department welcomes the Scrutiny Review of Street Works, particularly the opportunity it provides to support the effective management of the road network. The review recognises the importance of maintaining robust, well-supported processes for managing and coordinating street works within the current legislative framework, particularly given that the Department receives almost 30,000 street works permit applications each year.
