Donations to the political parties' Hastings and Rye branches, and to the
town's MP, as the Electoral Commission records them. These records aren't shown yet, while we confirm the Electoral Commission's terms for reusing them. Until they are,
the Commission's own search has every donation it publishes.
Candidates' spending at local elections
This register holds what parties, their local units and some office-holders report to
the Electoral Commission. It doesn't hold candidates' spending returns for borough or
county council elections: candidates send those to the returning officer at the council
that ran the election, and they are kept there. The law (the Representation of
the People Act 1983, section 89) says the officer must
“as soon as reasonably practicable after receiving the return or declaration make a copy of it, and any accompanying documents, available for public inspection at his office, or some other convenient place chosen by him, for a period of two years beginning with the date when the return is received by him”, and supply a copy to anyone who asks and pays the set fee.
Hastings Borough Council's elections pages
don't say how to ask to see them. The Electoral Commission's
guidance for candidates covers what happens to the paperwork
after a result; its site sends automatic readers a check we don't get round, so it isn't
quoted here.
